EYEWRITER – An Incredible Creative Breakthrough for those with ALS

EYEWRITER – An Incredible Creative Breakthrough for those with ALS

People love to hang onto the notion that the graffiti movement is one that is full of gangs, testosterone, pride, and vandalism.  Here’s proof positive that the movement does work in positive ways, and is making very interesting (and inexpensive) progress on a specific project – Eye Writer.

My friend Felix brought this to my attention and it’s really fascinating.  I highly recommend you give it a look.  Basically, this project is working to empower those suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) with a means of being creative, and active in their community.  Active?  Yes, via the eye-tracking apparatus that allows graffiti writers to write with their eyes…and their tags are then displayed via projector.

It is a low-cost eye-tracking apparatus & custom software that allows graffiti writers and artists with paralysis resulting from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to draw using only their eyes.

ALS is a neurological disease that causes muscle weakness, disability and eventually death.  To donate, and help move research along, please do so at the following link: http://www.alsa.org/donate/default.cfm

Religious Organizations are "outraged" with the concert held at St James Church

Religious Organizations are “outraged” with the concert held at St James Church

Further to a prior post (http://tinyurl.com/ygcpfxs), it seems a few religious organizations are “outraged” by the Real Estate/Beets show @ St James Church on January 15th.

I think a few of the comments were appropriate…and no, not about Total Slacker…I liked those guys. And they had more fun playing a good set, than you did commenting about them. I can assure you.

But the question remains, is it ok toss some young, vibrant rock and roll surrounding the alter of an institution (we’ll call it that), where you may or may not appreciate? I mean, this show was a stretch…from one of the commenters, http://tinyurl.com/ycphcux:

I heard the place was totally trashed by the end of the show – beer cans and cigarette butts everywhere.

I’m not religious but beer, puking, cigarettes and pot at a church, with the remnants left for others to clean up is kinda like…. Letting your friend have people over to your house without you there and coming back and finding people crapped over your place. I don’t think it’s a religious issue as much as a respect issue.”
